Creating Internal Virtues VIRTUE1.TXT ************************************************************************ One of the major methods for spiritual growth used in the East is the use of hand gestures/hand positions and or body positions to create certain effects and or changes in a human system. In the East the hand gestures/positions are called Mudras and the body positions are called Asanas. The practices consist of placing the hands and or body in specific gestures/positions and holding them there for certain time periods. Some times a Mudra or Asana is done as a separate practice. Sometimes both a Mudra and a Asana are done in concert to accomplish a change or an effect. It is said, "Placing the hands in certain positions and holding them in those positions for certain time periods causes effects in a person's energies and body as does doing the same with the body." There are Mudras and Asanas specifically used to: 1. Bring relaxation to the body and mind. 2. Keep the body toned and flexible. 3. Balance the body's energies. 4. Assist healing of body ailments and diseases. 5. Create spiritual development. 6. Cause an opening of the human system to receive Divine energies. 7. Direct psychic energies to perform a certain task and or create a certain effect. Mudras are usually performed for three to five minutes three times a day. One such practice is the creation or enhancement of certain valuable virtures in a person's conscious personality. A few of such virtues are: 1. Detachment. 2. Courage. 3. Sobriety 4. Innocence 5. Action. 6. Serenity. 7. Humility. 8. Truthfulness 9. Equanimity. The Practice: Sit in one of the positions shown in the drawing "Enneagon of the Virtues" with your mind quiet for fifteen minutes each and every day for forty days to enhance or create the specific virture in your self.
