RASIK: WHICH SADHANA [SPIRITUAL PATH/SET OF SPIRITUAL PRACTICES] MUST BE PRACTICED TO ATTAIN GOD? MUKTANANDA: YOU MAY DO ANY SADHANA THAT YOU CHOOSE, BUT IT MUST BE A COMPLETE ONE. THE SADHANA OF THE SIDDHAS IS COMPLETE; THEREFORE IT IS ADVISABLE TO FOLLOW THE PATH TRODDEN BY THEM. YOGA, JNANA, AND BAHAKTI ARE ALL COMPLETE SADDHANAS CREATED BY OUR "SEERS", WHO SHOWED THESE PATHS TO OTHERS ONLY AFTER PRACTICING THEM THEM SELVES AND ATTAINING PERFECTION [ENLIGHTENMENT]. GIVE UP INSISTING THAT ONLY ONE PARTICULAR TYPE OF SADHANA IS CORRECT. FOLLOW WHICHEVER PATH YOU LIKE BEST AND YOUR SADHANA WILL THEN BE VERY EASY. IT IS NOT NECESSARY TO FOLLOW ALL PATHS SIMULTANEOUSLY. IN FACT, TO DO SO WOULD ONLY INCREASE THE LIKELIHOOD OF MENTAL CONFUSION. IF YOU CAN MAKE THE MIND THOUGHT-FREE, YOU WILL ATTAIN THE TRUTH. THIS THOUGHT-FREE STATE CAN BE OBTAINED BY ANY OF THE PATHS. THE ULTIMATE AIM OF ALL THE PATHS OF SADHANA IS THE SAME SO FOLLOW ANY ONE PATH. EACH PATH PATH INCLUDES THE OTHER SADHANAS TO SOME EXTENT. FOR EXAMPLE, IN JAPA [REPEATING A MANTRA-OFTEN ONE WHICH INCLUDES THE NAME OF GOD], OR CONSTANT REMEMBRANCE OF GOD, YOGA AND JNANA [KNOWLEDGE] ARE INCLUDED. THE POSTURE WHICH YOU ADOPT BECOMES AN ASANA [A PARTICULAR POSITION TO SIT IN], WHICH IS A PART OF YOGA [OFTEN HATHA YOGA IS REFERRED TO JUST AS YOGA]. WHAT IS JAPA? TO KNOW HOW TO PRACTICE IT AND WHAT ITS AIMS AND OBJECTIVES ARE IS JNANA. THEREFORE, JAPA, THE REPETITION OF GOD'S NAME, AUTOMATICALLY INCLUDES YOGA AND JNANA. THE VISION OF ONENESS OBTAINED THROUGH BHAKTI, THE MATURE, SUBTLE PRAJNA [UNDERSTANDING] ATTAINED THROUGH THE STUDY OF VEDANTA [THE EASTERN SCRIPTURES CALLED THE VEDAS], AND THE NIRVIKALPA STATE [A STATE OF EXTREME BLISS] ACHIEVED BY THE PRACTICE OF YOGA ARE ALL ONE AND THE SAME. WHEN YOU ACHIEVE PERFECTION IN ANY ONE TYPE OF SADHANA, YOU WILL HAVE REACHED THE FINAL PERFECTION.
