A brief history of "The Dragon's Cave"

The original Dragon's Cave BBS went online in the late 1980's running on a Commodore 64 with 64k of RAM, three 180k floppy disk drives, and a 300 baud modem. The modem was eventually upgraded to a 1200 baud modem, being the highest baud rate that a Commodore 64 could support.

A few years later, the system was upgraded to an IBM XT compatible computer with a *huge* (at the time) 20 megabyte hard drive and a 2400 baud modem.

At the beginning, the Dragon's Cave was the only BBS in the State of Arkansas to offer extensive message bases and text files on spiritual topics. BBS's grew quickly in number across America and became interconnected via message sharing networks such as FidoNet and PODSnet. The messages on these systems leap-frogged from system to system each night as one system 'dialed' into another and transfered messages for that day. It was common for larger systems to have very large long-distance bills each month. You could post a message asking about a subject and that message would, in the course of a few days, magically appear on thousands of other BBS systems across America and the World.

One day, the Internet appeared. As the Internet became more and more popular, and cheaper and cheaper to access, people started abandoning BBS's and moving solely to the Internet. As this happened, many BBS's shut down for lack of users. Some BBS's made the leap on to the Internet, where some of them still exist in some form or another to this day. When the number of callers to The Dragon's Cave dropped down to just a few callers per month, the system was shut down and went permanently offline. The files and message bases of the old Dragon's Cave sat around in storage, unused for many years.

In 2004, the old files were pulled out of storage, dusted off, cleaned up, and re-organized. Then they were uploaded to an Internet web-server where they now sit. New message forums were created using the latest Internet technology. The Dragon's Cave was back online once more.

This website and message forums are operated by Cicero and Dragon, two old time system operators from the days of the early BBS systems. It is our hope that the knowledge contained herein will guide and assist people to better their lives, and become more aware of their Spiritual origins.
