We wish to tie these many notions together, along with their operational mechanisms of live mantra, invocation, initiation, and hypnosis. The thoughts expressed in the following commentaries on a few critical verses of the New Testament are based on all the previous materials covered in this volume and on the textual authority of their sources. This gives them a certain degree of general validity, but they yet must be verified by scientific methods to generalize their universal reality. We begin by interrelating a few key concepts in the Gospel's Book of John: THE WORD "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God." (John 1.1) This is very difficult to understand except through allegory and parable. We take the meaning of "Word" at its face value, a verbal pronouncement and a vibrating sound. Verbal soundings and pulsating pronouncements are meaningful and legitimate Sanskrit translations of "mantra". Substituting, we have: "In the beginning was mantra, and mantra was with god, and mantra was god". This is in precise agreement with the unfolding story of chapter two on the tattvas of tantra. Mantra finds itself situated right in the center of god consciousness. The whole story of a pure creative intelligence which illuminates the cosmos and mankind then becomes clearer. There are other expressions which might be used to signify or further delineate the abstract reality which is being portrayed, for instance, grace or spirit, or either of the two Sanskrit words: sabda, meaning sound or pranavah, meaning pronouncement or sound of the lord. Mantra, however, conveys a more precise meaning relative to simultaneously generating a more cross cultural vocabulary. Rosicrucians find the "Word" to be synonymous with vibration, and god to be equivalent with the universal source of power, Nous. A normal understanding for Rosicrucians is that energetic vibrations evolve out of Nous as does sakti out of siva. For TM it is common experience that live mantras evolve out of god consciousness, out of the source of creation. For Christians though, the "Word" is more closely associated with doctrine and philosophy. Edgar Cayce readings use wording that is similar to that of the Gospel, but with more mystical and esoteric supporting information. Cayce's use of the "Word" is much broader than is used in the Bible, and it concurs more generally with the traditional meaning carried by mystics and Rosicrucians. The world first develops from the subtle vibrations of the "Word", and layer upon layer it solidifies until humans arrive. MANY MANSIONS "In my Father's house there are many mansions; were it not so, I would have told you, because I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go to prepare a place for you, I am coming again, and I will take you to myself, that where I am, ye also may be. And whither I go, ye know the way." (John 14.2-14.4) We paraphrase freely. In god consciousness there are many states of awareness; were it not so, I would have told you, because I go to prepare a place for you (in god consciousness). And if I go to prepare a place for you (in god consciousness), I am coming again, and I will take you to myself (to god consciousness), that where I am, ye also may be (as your awareness will move to god consciousness). And whither I go, ye know the way (as live mantra is the way to god consciousness). God consciousness is the home of live mantra. It is the home of the worldwide known Trinities: of father, son, and holy ghost; of brahma, visnu, and siva; of sattva, rƒja, and tamas; of creation, maintenance, and destruction; of will, activity, and knowledge; of name, being, and form; and of bindu, nƒda, and bŒja, which together form kƒmakalƒ, the spontaneous and irresistible flowing of love; and also of the three tattvas which identify and define god consciousness; sadƒsiva, Œsvara, and suddhavidyƒ. Live mantra finds its excitement through the sequential movement among the three members of a Trinity. Live mantra is the experience of successive energy transformations among these complimentary aspects of creation. Live mantra is the spark of moving consciousness which can progressively identify the self with the seer, with the process of seeing, and with the seen. Live mantra offers the exalted possibility of seeing the whole spectrum of the universe as opposed to some tiny portion of it as is normally seen. DO GREATER THAN THESE " . . . Amen, amen, I say to you, he that believeth in me, the works that I do, he also shall do, and greater than these shall he do, because I go back to the Father; and whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, in order that the Father may be glorified in the Son." (John 14.12, 14.13) Clearly and explicitly Jesus here says that all of mankind is capable of doing as he does and yet even more, for he is going back to the father, the source of creation, in bindu at sadƒsiva tattva, the ultimate source of live mantra. Further, whatever is asked in his name (in the subtlety of live mantra), it will be done in order that the father may be glorified in the son (in order that the focussed source, bindu, of the father will be glorified by the worldly activity, nƒda, of the son, Œsvara, the lord). Hence, the source, bindu, of the father is the source of creation which is glorified through the vibrant soundings, nƒda, of the lord, Œsvara, who is also called the son, the Christ. Grace (live mantra) flows to mankind through this extraordinary guru, Jesus (who is called the Christ when he is in god consciousness). By merging into god consciousness, his will becomes our will and our will becomes his will, the will of creation itself, which is experienced as contentment. Grace flows and the two distinct realities merge, one's self and the lord, into a single consciousness of joy and existence. Should there be any doubt at all in anyone's mind on whether the nature of "miraculous" activities leading to higher levels of consciousness are condoned by the New Testament, this verse, John 14.12, should still one's concern. That all of mankind has the potential to perform so called "miracles" is flatly asserted by Jesus himself. These so called "miracles" turn out to be natural phenomena by those who have touched on some of them, and they correspond quite gracefully and innocently to the siddhis of the sutras, to psychic energy transfers for Rosicrucians, to healing for Silva Mind Control, and to readings for Edgar Cayce. Many of the great spiritual aspirants of our times are pursuing the fundamental Christian scriptures with zealous sincerity and devotion. Yet they have not come into direct contact with their spiritual ideal, whoever or whatever it may be. They have not, or will not, come into contact with TM or with the Rosicrucians or other similar organizations because of a vague feeling that such groups are opposed to god or that they are blasphemous in some way. Modern day religions have a minimal concern about the kingdom of heaven and a greater concern with social reform programs. Perhaps this minimal concern with the kingdom of heaven occurs because many of the basic techniques that lead gracefully toward enlightenment have been lost through time. There are a few members of the clergy that are simultaneously very involved with TM and with Rosicrucians. There should be more of these. There is no conflict of interest in belonging to any of these organizations. Maybe there is too much pride, as among the Pharisees whom Jesus rebuked. Why do conservative Christians deny the relevancy of the activities within these organizations? The "cults" as they are called by non-sympathetic observers are merely doing what Jesus said and taught. Is it because the conservative ministries have long ago lost all knowledge and ability concerning such phenomena? The first priests, the disciples, knew all these phenomena, as they were told to "Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse lepers, cast out demons . . ." (Matthew 10.7). Many who read the New Testament seem to miss these key principles altogether. They don't have live mantra. They limit themselves by separating themselves from god even while constantly extolling or proclaiming, "praise be to the lord" or the like. Indeed, the lord is intimately involved with us. ANOTHER ADVOCATE "And I will ask the Father, and he shall give you another Advocate, that he may be with you for ever, the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it beholdeth him not nor knoweth him. But ye know him, because he abideth with you, and is in you." (John 14.16, 14.17) "And I will become attuned with the father in god consciousness, and the source of creation, sadƒsiva, shall give you a live mantra, which will be with you for ever, the spirit of truth (to be eternally experienced as a subtle flowing grace), whom the world cannot receive, because it knows not of god consciousness nor of live mantra. But you know of god consciousness because live mantra abides with you, and is in you." NOT LEAVE YOU ORPHANS "I will not leave you orphans; I am coming to you. Yet a little while, and the world beholdeth me no more; but ye behold me, because I live and ye shall live. In that day ye shall know that I am in the Father, and ye in me, and I in you." (John 14.18-14.20) "I will not leave you by yourselves; I am coming to you in live mantra. Yet in a little while, and the world beholdeth me no more; but you will behold me, because I live in live mantra and you shall live in live mantra. In that day you shall know that I am in the father, and you in me, and I in you (in that day you shall overwhelmingly experience god consciousness by way of live mantra)." GURU The last quotation (John 14.20) is a good definition of the subtle relationship with guru, indicating the mutual access to the subtlest state of live mantra in god consciousness. The self of the aspiring one becomes totally attuned and coincident with the self of the mentor, by way of live mantra. Emulation and identification is complete. From the two, a single cosmic wave of transcendental consciousness arises. Artists can experience similar phenomena; for instance, the complete disappearance from consciousness of a musician's instrument while music alone remains, just music. Similarly, each spouse dissolves into the other in a good marriage, though both remain actively independent. It is a matter of the unifying power of live mantra. Guru initially shows us the way to the subtlest of all realities, and then we independently continue to experience a world of joy and peace in live mantra. If Jesus, the father, and the disciples are all to come within each other, then obviously we have the equivalence of a mathematical tautology where each consciousness is within the other, and therefore, all are identical in ultimate reality. What is being discussed here, of course, is the future reality of the goal that is not yet reached. The implication is that the disciples can soon expect some closer intermingling in consciousness, and it is the consciousness of the disciples that is going to be experiencing changes in awareness, not that of Jesus or of the father. There must be some close linking principle here, between Jesus and the father and the disciples, some enlivened state or some energy transformation that does not exist between Jesus and others of the world, something that will continue to nurture the disciples after, ". . the world will see me no more, . ." Such a principle or power is most intimately concerned with Jesus himself, for, ". . because I live, you will live also." Without Jesus, there is no worthwhile continuing life, yet he will be gone from the world. Very confusing, but we start to understand more clearly with the following verses. THE WORD IS NOT MINE " . . .If any one loveth me, he will keep my word, and my Father shall love him, and we will come to him and make our abode with him. He that loveth me not keepeth not my words. And the word which ye hear is not mine, but the Father's who hath sent me." (John 14.23, 14.24) "If any one loves me, he will use the live mantra, and the source of creation shall love him, and god consciousness will come into his consciousness and make its abode with him. He that loves me not does not use live mantra. And the live mantra which you hear is not mine, but comes from the source of creation which has sent me." Clearly, live mantra, though passed on from teacher to student in mortal body, is not of mortal origin or authorship. Live mantra develops out of the very source of creation, in the realm of god and unity consciousness. Modern Christianity has all but forgotten about enlivened mantra and the holy spirt. When the possibility of easily obtaining live mantra occurs, it is almost always rejected, similarly as it was in ancient times. Most modern priests, ministers, and rabbis are very good social workers who try to pacify the troubled and feed the poor. Though such work is itself most commendable and much needed, it is far removed from the administration of holy spirit and the activities of higher consciousness which their job descriptions might presuppose. Even more serious than this, though, is their general inability and lack of desire to innocently keep searching until these things are found. Again, pride and ego keep one away. Religious mind sets themselves stop the progress of religion! ADVOCATE - HOLY SPIRIT "These things have I spoken to you, abiding with you. But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring to your mind all the things that I have said to you." (John 14.25, 14.26) These things I have spoken to you, while being with you. But the live mantra, the grace of the holy spirit, which the source of creation will send in my name (as live mantra is composed of name, being, and form, a triad of attributes from the source of creation), he shall teach you all things, and bring to your mind all the things that I have said to you. The Vedas say, "Knowledge is structured in consciousness." In due time, live mantra "brings up" pieces of information to consciousness, according to the questions entertained in mind, "and he shall teach you all things." This is clearly the power of live mantra that Jesus is talking about. The substance is nearly identical to the intuitive insight that will flash forth in truth bearing consciousness, as per yoga sutra Y1.48 expressed in chapter one. Jesus is talking about the reverberating pronouncement of the lord expressed in yoga sutras Y1.27-29. The holy spirit will teach us all things through raising our level of consciousness. The holy spirit will be sent in the name of Jesus. What does this mean? CLEAN BECAUSE OF THE WORD "Ye are already clean, because of the word which I have spoken to you; abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abide in the vine; so neither can ye, unless ye abide in me." (John 15.3, 15.4) "You are already clean, because of live mantra which I have spoken to you; abide in me, and I in you (through live mantra). As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abide in the vine; so neither can you, unless you abide in me." Live mantra comes from god consciousness. Existence becomes dynamic and alive through live mantra. A word can be a cleaning agent if it has the magic of live mantra, as the pronouncement of the lord (sutras Y1.27-29). Not all words have the ability to purify. Most words neither purify nor contaminate, they are simply labels of meaning for intellectual communication. The magic of an enlivened mantra is that it attenuates afflictions and purifies consciousness. ASK WHATSOEVER YE WILL "If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ask whatsoever ye will and it shall be done to you. Herein is my Father glorified, in that ye bear much fruit, and become my disciples." (John 15.7, 15.8) If you are emerged in god consciousness, and live mantra abides in you; ask whatsoever you will and it shall be done to you. Herein is the source of creation glorified, in that ye bear much fruit (in passing on live mantra to others), and become my disciples. Is it possible that live mantra can really spontaneously appear within another's consciousness, through some simple routine which moves consciousness to god consciousness, at least momentarily? Yes, according to these verses, John 15.7 & 15.8, and yes also, according to the development of this theme in the yoga sutras, and absolutely yes according to Transcendental Meditation. Live mantra is a living reality that can be passed on to virtually anyone who wants it, by teachers or disciples or fisherman or whomever, by mere mortals from all walks of life, all of whom are simply mechanics who have been trained with extraordinarily unique instructions from supreme and ancient traditions on how to do it. Christianity has long lost the subtleties of live mantra that are here developed by Jesus. ADVOCATE IS FROM FATHER "When the Advocate is come, whom I will send you from the Father, the Spirit of truth, who proceedeth from the Father, he shall witness concerning me; and ye also are witnesses, because ye are with me from the beginning." (John 15.26, 15.27) When live mantra comes, which will arrive from the source of creation, the spirit of truth, which comes from the source of creation, the grace of live mantra shall witness concerning me; and you also are witnesses (of passing live mantra on to others), because you are with me from the beginning (as you have received live mantra from the beginning). ADVOCATE - COMES AFTER I DEPART "But I tell you the truth: it is expedient for you that I depart: for if I depart not, the Advocate will not come to you: but if I go, I will send him unto you." (John 16.7) But I tell you the truth: it is expedient for you that I depart: for if I do not depart, the source of live mantra will not come to you (the flowing grace to pass live mantra on to others): but if I go, I will send the flowing grace of live mantra to you. Jesus presents techniques to the disciples that will enable them to pass on live mantras to others, but specifically when the "Advocate", the holy spirit from god consciousness hath come and after Jesus is no longer embodied. Once the enlivened mantra from the source of creation is experienced, the truth bearing insights which follow from the source of creation will bear witness concerning the true reality of Jesus. Jesus was unfolding the glory of the universe and of himself to the disciples, and he was instructing them on their future activities in presenting the teaching to the world, for he must soon be leaving them. Something pretty exciting is going to happen after Jesus leaves, something that he himself is apparently involved in, since he must leave the world before it is to manifest: the entrance of the holy spirit into the disciples. For the mystic, seeking and achieving direct contact with god is a primary goal. Even for the one who very loudly and whole heartedly denies any contact with mysticism, presumably because of its poor track record in practical affairs, even this non-mystic is always searching for the grace of god or the holy spirit, calling it greater happiness. There is no one who is not always seeking greater joy and happiness. Regardless of our nature or goals, the thirst for greater happiness is the ultimate universal drive, a thirst for the flow of more sƒkti. Jesus is a channel of the lord for setting up a direct contact between man and the center of the creative forces in god consciousness. Jesus must leave. He is going to god consciousness to expedite mediation for providing direct contact with the holy spirit. Not only has Jesus taught the disciples about intellectual knowledge contained in the Word, but he has introduced the mystery of the subtle values of sound, mantra. Mantra is to be further enlivened within the disciples who can now be conduits to awaken this supreme knowledge in others who may want it. How is Jesus a channel of mediation between man and the center of creative forces in god consciousness? It must be presumed that Jesus has already achieved god consciousness most or all of the time while in the embodied state, for this why he is being called the Christ. Therefore, his subtle body will likewise be in such a state after he departs the physical body and the fluctuations of consciousness will reflect the attributes of the lord, Œsvara. If Jesus departs his physical body, the subtle body is now free to come to any of the disciples, "for if I depart not, the Advocate will not come to you: but if I go, I will send him unto you." Jesus gives his life to mankind by making his subtle body available to the world as a conduit for the flow of sakti to further enliven mantra. The flowing grace of sakti arrives to the disciples as experiences of the greater wonders of god and unity consciousness. Through invocation and other teaching techniques that Jesus undoubtedly left to the disciples the Advocate is now available to pass on live mantra to others. COMING SPIRIT OF TRUTH "But when he shall have come, the Spirit of truth, he shall guide you to the whole truth: for he shall not speak of himself: but whatsoever things he heareth he shall speak, and the things that are to come he shall declare to you. He shall glorify me, for he shall take from that which is mine and declare it to you. All things whatsoever the Father hath are mine; for this cause have I said that he taketh of that which is mine and shall declare it to you." (John 16.13-16.15) But when he shall have come, the bliss of live mantra, he shall guide you to the whole truth: for he shall not speak of himself: but whatsoever things he hears he shall speak (through the rising awareness of god consciousness), and the things that are to come he shall declare to you. The bliss of live mantra shall glorify me, for he shall take from that which is mine and declare it to you (to pass on to others). All things whatsoever at the source of creation are mine; for this cause have I said that he taketh of that which is mine (the bliss of live mantra) and shall declare it to you. Live mantra is the common flux for subtle communications between mankind, Jesus, and god consciousness. Jesus is training disciples to pass on live mantra. The actual process of passing on live mantra is primarily involved in rising to a state of god consciousness, if only for a moment. Then live mantra, experienced as sublime mental and physical states of joy, spontaneously links to an appropriate receptive and sympathetic consciousness in the local environment. MANIFESTING THY NAME "I have manifested thy name to the men whom thou hast given me out of the world; thine they were, and to me thou gavest them, and they have kept thy word. Now they have known that all things whatsoever thou hast given me are from thee; because the words which thou hast given me I have given to them, and they have received them, and they have truly known that I came forth from thee, . . ." (John 17.6-17.8) "I have passed on live mantra to the men whom thou hast given me out of the world; yours they were, and to me thou gavest them, and they use live mantra. Now (through having many experiences with live mantra) they have known that all things whatsoever you have given me are from you (the source of creation in god consciousness); because the live mantras which you have given me I have given to them, and they have received the live mantras, and they have truly known that live mantras came forth from the source of creation, . . ." The mantras evolve out of the subtlest reality from the center of creation. These subtle vibrations communicate throbbing life to all of creation. Indeed, they are the activating principles of life itself, that everlasting, eternal aspect of creation that moves on with our subtle body after we expire from our present physical body. KEEP THEM IN THY NAME " . . .Holy Father, keep them in thy name which thou has given me, that they may be as one, as we. While I was with them I kept them in thy name which thou hast given me, and I guarded them . . ." John 17.11, 17.12) Holy source of creation, keep them with the live mantras which you have given to me, that they may be as one, as we (are one in god consciousness). While I was with them I kept them with live mantra which you have given me, and I guarded them . . . " THY WORD IS TRUTH "I have given them thy word, and the world hath hated them, because they are not of the world, even as I am not of the world . . . Hallow them in the truth; thy word is truth. As thou hast sent me into the world, so I also have sent them into the world. (John 17.14, 17.17, 17.18) I have given them live mantras, and the world now hates them, because they are not of the world (because of the ability to spontaneously move in and out of god consciousness), even as I am not of the world . . . Hallow them in the truth; the live mantras are truth. As you have sent me into the world, so I also have sent them into the world. PERFECTED IN UNITY "And the glory which thou hast given me, I have given them, that they may be one, as we are one - I in them, and thou in me - that they may be perfected in unity, in order that the world may know that thou hast sent me, and that thou hast loved them, even as thou has loved me." (John 17.22, 17.23) The text of these verses might be used verbatim as an excellent reference and definition of the source of live mantra, in god and unity consciousness, as outlined among the tattvas of chapter two. SEEING THEY DO NOT SEE " . . . To you (the disciples) it is given to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it is not given. For to him who has shall be given, and he shall have abundance; but from him who does not have, even that which he has shall be taken away. This is why I speak to them in parables, because seeing they do not see, and hearing they do not hear, neither do they understand." (Matthew 13.11-13) The disciples have been given to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven and they are to continue passing out suitable mantra vehicles that awaken the holy spirit within others. Jesus spoke in parables because speaking about the inner reality of god consciousness is at very best, most difficult due to its abstract nature. Yet, the nature of mantra and holy spirit are very real and they should also be very scientific in the present era. Physics is beginning to describe this very same field of infinite creativity, but the abstruse nature of the higher mathematics needed for the description is often no less easy to decipher. However, we must start somewhere and we will bring out a little of the mathematics associated with holographic realities in the next chapter. With an enlivened mantra, the process of attaining inner knowledge is automatically self perpetuating, "For to him who has shall be given, and he shall have abundance". However, only more suffering results in the promotion of ignorance through the continual creation of new samskƒras, as "from him who does not have, even that which he has shall be taken away". Knowledge of god consciousness, of heaven, leads to abundance while ignorance of it promotes suffering and death. Knowledge of god consciousness is knowledge of mantra, of energy, of waves of sƒkti. It is the direct experience of dissolving mantra at its source and is the most subtle value of the "Word". THE WORD NOT UNDERSTOOD "When anyone hears the Word of the kingdom, but does not understand it, the wicked one comes and snatches away what has been sown by the wayside." (Matthew 13.19) A real experience of live mantra may occur, but if it is not properly understood, the subtle values of mantra may be intellectually discarded as imaginary rubbish or the like. The heavily ingrained habits (samskƒras) of many lifetimes, peer pressure, and other environmental influences (often from religious traditions themselves) come along to snatch away the brief joy that has been experienced, leaving one by the wayside to continue struggling in suffering and ignorance. THE WORD SOWN ON ROCKY GROUND "And the one sown on rocky ground, that is he who hears the Word and receives it immediately with joy; yet he has no root in himself, but continues only for a time, and when trouble and persecution come because of the Word, he at once falls away." (Matthew 13.20-21) Another whose foundation is still on rocky ground, hears the knowledge about the kingdom of heaven and receives an enlivened mantra, and it is experienced immediately with great joy; yet he is not firmly established in himself, but continues the practice of live mantra only for a time, and because he is occasionally irritated by the stresses being released and persecuted or ostracized by other environmental influences, he at once falls away from live mantra. THE WORD CHOKED BY RICHES "And the one sown among the thorns, that is he who listens to the Word; but the care of this world and the deceitfulness of riches choke the Word, and it is made fruitless." (Matthew 13.22) Another is initiated into live mantra while in personal distress, and he experiences immediate relief from suffering through the joy of live mantra, but the cares of this world and the deceitfulness of the many activities of riches choke off live mantra and it is made fruitless. The mantra's enlivened state fails to be perceived any longer because the attention is always elsewhere in worldly activities. THE WORD SOWN UPON GOOD GROUND "And the one sown upon good ground, that is he who hears the word and understands it; he bears fruit and yields in one case a hundredfold, in another sixtyfold, and in another thirtyfold." (Matthew 13.23) And the one who wants lasting benefits both experiences and understands live mantra. The regular practice of live mantra bears fruit and yields god consciousness in one case, cosmic consciousness in another, and transcendental consciousness in yet another. THE LORD'S PRAYER " . . Our Father who are in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we also forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil." (Matthew 6.9-13) Even the Lord's Prayer is not silent about live mantra! Our father who art in god consciousness, hallowed be thy name, the live mantra embellished with the holy spirit. With it thy kingdom comes to consciousness and shortly thereafter thy will, not my will, is innocently and spontaneously done on earth, as it is in god consciousness. The live mantra gives us our daily energy, sƒkti, from which our stresses are forgiven, whereby we forgive the activities born of stress of our debtors. And continue to pass along this holy spirit, sƒkti, which leads us not into temptations toward suffering, but rather delivers us from the evils of ignorance. SEEK FIRST THE KINGDOM OF GOD "But seek first the kingdom of God and his justice, and all these things shall be given you besides." (Matthew 6.33) The message is very clear: go first to the kingdom of god consciousness and then all else comes to us. Go first to the seedless samƒdhi and everything comes to us. Spontaneous right action comes from repeatedly visiting the kingdom of heaven, and not vice-versa. The performance of right action may be catalytically good for assisting us into higher states of consciousness, but it will not put us there. The message is presented upside-down in most pulpits. "Sins" or wrong actions are the result of stresses in the nervous system that prevent us from clearly seeing the kingdom of god. With a clear vision of the kingdom of heaven the so called "sins" fall off from behavior very naturally and innocently. The "sins" are not fought off in a heated battle with the mind-body system, where victory is rarely achieved; rather the "sins" simply drop away from one's attention. The so called "sins" are no longer desired or in some cases they may no longer be considered wrong activity. Life supporting activities simply dominate the visions and desires of consciousness. The enlivened mantra is certainly a hallowed object! WHEN TWO OR THREE GATHER "For when two or three are gathered in my name, there am I in the midst of them." (Matthew 18.20) The power of invocation exists at all times for all situations. "Gathered in my name" is invocation by name, the verbal calling of his name. When two or three are gathered together, the fluctuations of the joint consciousness are stronger, and the desire is accomplished. Rosicrucians love to say, "So mote it be." There is first a visualized resolution developed in consciousness and then pronouncement is declared. It is done. The joint consciousness of two or three dissolve into his consciousness and vice versa. To the extent that we give ourselves over to the influence which we are invoking, to that extent will that influence give itself over to us. Invocation is a uniformly reciprocal agreement. It is the highest form of sympathetic attunement. It is a reforming of the fluctuations of consciousness into a modified reality. It is the melting of ourselves into the sources of creation. It is the summoning of god. It is the repetition of mantra. It is devotion to the lord within. From this consciousness all things are possible, for Jesus continues: ASK AND IT WILL BE GIVEN "And I tell you, Ask, and it will be given you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For every one who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened." (Luke 11.9-10) Repeated experiences of higher states of consciousness is the receipt of a gift being given. Not only is all that is asked for continually being given, but at a level close to unity consciousness, it is said that the receiver already owns all that could be given. The subtle mechanics of nature become better realized and the "asking" and the "seeking" are seen as forms of invocation, the dissolution of self into the field of god consciousness. HOLY SPIRIT TO THOSE WHO ASK "If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will the heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!" (Luke 11.13) We accept these teachings of Jesus at face value. If we believe that the process of enlightenment is an impossible event, then it is impossible. There are many who spend years of toil and suffering over fine philosophical and intellectual points on religious ideas without once receiving some of the holy spirit. Ironically, it is often those very persons who are themselves passionately looking for Jesus, the Christ, who behave this way. When it is suggested that specific mental techniques may enhance the probability for a face to face meeting with the lord, one sometimes hears, "devil, be gone", or the like. Some tough samskƒras are apparently in place and fear overtakes the nervous system. Live mantra is needed, and its available to everyone! SIDDHIS - JESUS MOVING MOUNTAINS ". . For truly, I say to you, if you have faith as a grain of mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, "Move hence to yonder place", and it will move; and nothing will be impossible to you." (Matthew 17.20) WALKING ON WATER "And Peter answered him, "Lord, if it is you, bid me come to you on the water." He said, "Come." So Peter got out of the boat and walked on the water and came to Jesus; but when he saw the wind, he was afraid, and beginning to sink he cried out, "Lord, save me." Jesus immediately reached out his hand and caught him, saying to him, "O man of little faith, why did you doubt?" (Matthew 14.28-31) A faith that is free from doubt is therefore a key ingredient necessary to attain the extraordinary siddhis, the super normal abilities such as moving mountains or walking on water. Faith is that energetic will that inspires the mind to continue pushing forward in spite of seemingly poor odds. Faith is adamant belief founded on repetition in a supportive environment. Some greater trickle of holy spirit, grace, love, or psychic energy is getting through the nervous system in spite of stresses. We repeat a determination, over and over again in a supportive environment, and we call it faith. Long term repetition with intensity is the formula. We enjoy it. We love it. It is a flow of sakti. LEVITATION - ASCENSION "From mastery of the up-breath (udƒna), water, mud, thorns, etc, are non clinging and there is ascension." (Y3.40 - udƒna jayƒj jala panka kantaka ƒdisv asanga utkrƒntis ca) From mastery over the up-breath, udƒna, then water, mud, and thorns, etc., become non clinging, and there is ascension or levitation. One variation on this sutra has been a parlor game performed for two generations now, by my father who has no knowledge of the yoga sutras. A priest taught the game to him when he was a young altar boy in the Catholic Church, and thus the validity of the undertaking was never questioned. The game was played at family gatherings over the holiday periods in the midst of considerable merry making and festivity. A large, heavy man was typically chosen to be a target volunteer body. He was told to lie flat on his back on the floor, on a carpet. Two people on each side of the target body would partially stand and partially kneel on the floor. Each person would put one finger from each hand under the body. Thus, a total of eight fingers would be attempting to lift a 200 pound body to the ceiling of the room. The target body and the four lifters would each inhale a deep breath, hold, and then exhale, a total of three times, in unison and on cue as directed by the leader. The third deep breath was inhaled and held, while the target body would make himself rigid as a board, and would imagine himself floating to the ceiling. The four lifters would lift, and the body would effortlessly fly toward the ceiling! In analysis, if the body weight were distributed evenly, then some 25 pounds would be expected on each of the fingers, the weight of a large grocery bag filled with cans and bottled goods. Up to twice this weight could be expected on each finger if there was the slightest imbalance or timing error among the lifters, due to the changing distribution of accelerating forces. However, the body always felt light as a feather, as if practically no lifting was being done at all. Of course, my father was always full of enthusiasm about this game and he was absolutely certain that it would work as it always had worked in the past. It never failed in all the years that I saw it performed. This parlor game is certainly a beginning practical application of this sutra. LEVITATION - TRAVERSING SPACE "From samyama on the connection between body and space, and from identification with being light as cotton, then the traversing of space." (Y3.43 - kƒya ƒkƒsayoh sambandha samyamƒl laghu t–la samƒpattes ca ƒkƒsa gamanam) Samyama is fully explained in the beginning of chapter five. First we do samyama on the connection between body and space. Next we identify with being light as cotton. (Note that we actually made this identification of being light as cotton in the example of the levitation parlor game at sutra Y3.40 just described.) Now, traversing space is achieved. LEVITATION - FLYING SIVA STATE "Dreams are a subtle knowledge of non distinct appearances conceived in the mind." (S2.4 - garbhe citta vikƒsah avisista vidyƒ svapnah) "The rising of such subtle knowledge simultaneously while being near ones own self is called the flying siva state." (S2.5 - vidyƒ samutthƒne sva ƒ bhƒvike khecarŒ siva avasthƒ) The above siva sutra alludes to levitation as the flying siva state. These three levitation sutras (Y3.40, Y3.43, and S2.5) are included for completeness only. They should only be taken seriously in the realm of the mind, imagination, and visualization where they are phenomenal! Though wild stories and spectacular rumors about levitation always manage to surface, including among the Rosicrucians, they are far beyond the realm of presently known experiences with the physical body. If an effortlessly floating in the air were to occur, with the physical body attached, it would be well advised to keep quiet about it, absolutely top secret, certainly until the details of levitation are fully worked out in one's own mind, along with all aspects of future social interrelationships with other members of society! Suddenly, there is overwhelming inhibition. Do we really want to levitate? What happens afterwards? Soon perhaps, we experience the fate of Peter as he started sinking and we hear Jesus retort, "O man of little faith, why did you doubt?" Personal egos always like to make their mark of distinction among their brethren, but there is a limit as to how far one is willing to go! Paying a price of total isolation and ostricization is probably asking too much, because of the simultaneously conflicting natural inclination of love which draws us together. With Jesus, of course, the continuing, spontaneous flow of sakti, pure love, back and forth directly into the center of god consciousness was sufficient to overcome such restrictions. If we are going to levitate our physical body, we should be in god consciousness. Indeed, it is doubtful that such a feat can occur unless one is well established in god consciousness anyhow, so either way, we need not be concerned. PSYCHIC EXPERIENCES EXPLAINED CLOUD BUSTING I experienced some extraordinary psychic phenomena, as a student some three decades ago: boring holes through clouds by visualization and strength of will! The Magazine Section of a Denver Sunday newspaper had a feature article about a Canadian lady who looked up at clouds and proceeded to punch holes through different clouds as directed by those around her. The lady was an average person, the details are long forgotten but she was not portrayed as a trained yogi or a religious saint. I then thought that everybody could probably do this also, for it seemed simple enough. I went outside and simply punched holes, here and there at will, in some beautiful cumulus clouds. A question quickly arose, "Was I really punching holes in the cloud or was my awareness heightened in advance, a precognition, about what nature was naturally doing all along?" I have since had the opportunity to attempt blowing holes in clouds with and lasers to get some quantitative idea of the power levels needed to perform such a stunt. Though nothing conclusive can be said as there were too many variables involved with too little testing, it would seem that humans could, in principle, muster up enough energy to blow small holes in light cumulus clouds. Humans are considered as 100 watt energy sources in air conditioning design work. If we momentarily divert a significant fraction of this energy, it should be possible to vaporize holes in time frames from seconds to minutes. Either way, whether creations or precognitions, this mentally contrived cloud boring phenomena was performed privately for hundreds of trials over many weeks with never a failure. The cloud busting was performed privately at first because I didn't dare show it to anyone else, for what if the stunt failed at such a showing? Finally though, after many months of nothing but successful trials, I could no long contain my excitement and I decided to show it to an old roommate who was a mathematics prodigy at MIT, a close friend whom I dearly respected as the most intelligent person I knew. I popped several holes through some nice cumulus clouds again and he and I were both equally amazed! Eventually, a friend of his trained in psychiatry appeared, greatly upsetting my intimate enthrallment, and for the first time, failure occurred. I could no longer bore holes through clouds! Such an experience stays with one forever and has a way of fundamentally altering goals and the direction of motivations. Exactly what happened? SUBTLE SENSES - CLOUD BUSTING Only now is it possible to coherently speculate about what happened and with a developing theoretical model it's possible to design experiments to verify such speculations. Using the substance of the previous six chapters as a basis to speculate, we know that this psychic experience was involved with the subtle mind. The subtle senses probably extended themselves directly into the cumulus clouds where the prakrti particles of citta directly intermingled with the water vapor of the clouds, giving at once to the seer, the changing density over various portions of a cloud. Hence, the cloud busting experience was probably a form of precognition, and not an energy expending boring of holes. The subtle senses knew, in advance of the physical senses, exactly what was quite naturally developing in the changing spatial distributions of water vapor molecules in the cloud. But why did the precognition faculty quit when a third party, a stranger, appeared on the scene? The precognition faculty quit because the innocence of full participation in the present quit, the one pointed fully developed samƒdhi quit, the naturally occurring samyama quit, the concentration was broken. Fear of failure emerged. Doubts arose, as perhaps these phenomena were associated with a mental imbalance and if so, the psychiatrically trained stranger would surely pick that up. It was safer to back off. The cloud busting failed for precisely the same reasons as Peter's walking on water failed: "O man of little faith, why did you doubt?" (Matthew 14.30-31) In his enthusiasm with Jesus, Peter simply walked on water, never thinking twice about it, after he became certain that his mentor was interceding on his behalf, " . . but when he saw the wind, he was afraid, and beginning to sink he cried out . ." The wind came to his attention and it broke the concentration, it broke the samyama, it broke the precision one pointed repetitions of samƒdhi (ekƒgratƒ parinƒmah of sutra Y3.12 in chapter five), it broke the full participation in the present, and fear of failure set in. Of course, Peter's job of staying afloat would seem to be quite a bit tougher than punching holes in clouds, but the principles are the same. Reality is whatever samyama or preconditioning has designated. Heartfelt samyama is every bit as potent as somnambulistic hypnosis. Life is what we will have of it, and what we have of it is according to our innocent beliefs, to preconditioning. These are controlled by our immediate environment and from past samskƒras. We can't change the past, but we might be able to control our present environment. There must be innocence for clear, quick movements in the present. Hesitation, stresses, break the fluctuations of consciousness. "What if the stranger condemns?" or "What if the wind blows me over?" Fear is just another set of fluctuations of consciousness which break the commingling ties between the other constituents of a prevailing siddhi. There is no fear in presence of a continuously flowing stream of sakti or grace, as occurs in transcendental consciousness or in the waking state when we are fully active in the present. PLASMA LAMP PUMP I experienced a second overwhelming adventure into extraordinary psychic phenomena, many years later, as an associate scientist in a high tech weapon systems research laboratory. Having developed an extremely high power plasma lamp, four times the intensity of the sun, for exciting (pumping) solid state lasers in an early Star Wars type program, I one day found that my conscious awareness had also been "excited". The plasma lamp was outrageously ferocious, giving instant sun burns if one so dared and creating considerable ozone almost instantaneously in the local environment. I saw purple aura around all green vegetation for many hours after running the lamp, as well as all sorts of animal creatures jumping about in the trees. I knew that I had never before seen such things. Moreover, upon closing the eyes, the ordinary waking state and a typical dreaming state were simultaneously in consciousness. A dream was occurring while I was fully aware of everything going on around me. In addition, photon like, spontaneous light emissions of extraordinary size and intensity were seen, similar to huge fireflies, near the vicinity of the plasma lamp, for some time after the lamp was turned off! This was not a dream for the eyes were open, and since I was the research division expert in calibrating its photon measuring devices, I presumably knew precisely how much and what type of photon energy existed all around the lamp. Such an experience has a way of even more fundamentally altering and redirecting one's goals and motivations. Exactly what happened? These plasma lamp experiences are quite a bit more involved than the cloud busting events, assuming that the cloud phenomena are passive precognitive observations as distinct from energy consuming hole boring operations. The plasma lamp events are loaded with possibilities of energy transfers up to 100 kilowatts worth. The detailed interactions among photons, atoms, and molecules in the plasma lamp environment is clearly beyond the scope of this writing, but the extremely high energy density of the plasma fire itself was thought to be only an order of magnitude away from nuclear fusion domains. Hence it was highly probable that extremely high frequency photon emissions occurred along with possible nuclear resonances. The vibrational spectrum of such energetic photons could well fall into the domain of the prakrti and citta of the subtle mind as further outlined in the following chapter. Quite literally then, such photons could "excite" the subtle mind directly. The word "excite" with the quotation marks is here used in physics' sense of transferring energy to something, not as a quickening change in emotional state, though for sure, that happened also during these psychic experiences. HIGHER VIBRATIONS - PLASMA LAMP Psychics through all ages, among all groups, have used expressions such as "higher vibrational rates" and "higher frequency" in referring to the flow of grace or sakti or any energies that come from the realms of subtle creation. We accept these notions at face value and it makes sense physically. By definition, whatever occurs around the subtle body is much more subtle than what occurs around the physical body. Most things going on in the subtle domain of reality are never seen, because the physical senses cannot see them, and the subtle senses are mostly overwhelmed by the data stream coming from the physical senses. Instrumentation sensors are not yet developed for this domain, but we are working on it. On rare occasions, for a variety of unpredictable reasons, "anecdotal" and "anomalous" events do occur, such as these psychic experiences aroused by the particularly energetic energy transfers of the plasma lamp. If the subtle body is "excited", made more violently energetic, where rajas guna takes overwhelming control, then we postulate that there is some sort of spilling over of the subtle senses in parallel with the physical senses. One then literally sees a double image, similar to looking through two photographic negatives superimposed on each other. Indeed, one sees a purple aura around all green vegetation and a group of animals swinging around in the trees, simultaneously with the usual, normal environment that is well known. PSYCHIC VISIONS - PLASMA LAMP We have discussed a possible scenario for the mind-brain interconnection, namely that the photonic fields of the subtle mind excite appropriate neurons at suitable holographic spatial locations of the brain. Since the optic nerves of the eye in some species can be cut and the many nerve endings find their way back to the correct locations, it shouldn't be hard to imagine the holographic subtle mind finding its correct contacting locations in the brain! When the mind is not connected to a body, the subtle senses are fully active. When the mind is hooked up to a body, the physical senses dominate the sensory apparatus but the subtle values still occasionally get through with reduced visibility. During the dream state, the subtle senses dominate while the physical senses are mostly subdued, but are in a ready alert state for survival. The sleep state occurs when the subtle mind also goes to sleep. It disperses itself thinly through creation and goes to the causal state of reality, very close to god consciousness. We have thus also explained the simultaneous awareness of the waking and dreaming states of consciousness which occurred after the plasma lamp was operated for a time. The mind was being "pumped up" a bit, and the dream state which is always simultaneously active during waking state (since the dream state is nothing less than the activity of the subtle senses) somehow spills over into the waking state experience, because of the additional "excited" energies transferred from the plasma lamp. "Somehow spills over into the waking state experience" is an idea that we have discussed earlier with the sutras. The subtle mind connects with the brain at point by point locations within the physical brain. The subtle senses, which are the plasma like fog haze elongations and infinitely flexible extensions of the subtle mind, also tie to points in the brain corresponding to their respective physical senses. Physical senses fire neurons which terminate in specialized locations in the brain. These signals are picked up by the subtle mind at the mind-brain interface and experienced by the seer in whatever tattva that the seer may find oneself, let us say in the normal self, purusa. Assume the seer now sees the plasma lamp, as usual with the eyes. After the plasma lamp is turned off, the subtle mind is highly "excited". Its signals are much stronger because of the excited rajas guna of citta. These signals are already connected to the seer because they come from the subtle senses which are part of the subtle mind. The magnitude of these signals are now at the same level as those coming through via the physical brain, and viola, they superimpose over each other. Both the so called psychic vision and the brain developed eye vision are seen by the seer simultaneously. FIREBALLS - PLASMA LAMP We do not know yet, precisely what the huge, firefly like photons were, but they were undoubtedly some energetic phenomena of subtle reality. It is known that these psychic sightings were of external origin to the mind- body system and not internal because of additionally performed experiments that differentiate between the two phenomena. It is well know that the human eye can see individual photons with a 3% quantum efficiency, after total dark adaptation for about twenty minutes. The visual sensation from a single external photon is easily differentiated from sensations which result from eye strain and physical stresses on the retina. Perhaps the subtle senses are involved in such a differentiation, we don't know yet, but inner and outer reality are seen as distinct. In addition, we also note that huge, firefly like photons are similar to fireballs, a well know phenomena around high energy plasmas. Plasma lamps can be notoriously complex and potentially unstable. Plasmas can be maintained in many states of existence, some of which are resoundingly noisy while others are eerily and imperceptibly quiet. Some states seem almost alive, as gigantic relatively coherent waves, for instance. With a frightening loud banging sound, a fireball "mysteriously" blew out of this totally enclosed, high pressure plasma lamp one day and destroyed a nearby meter which was not connected to it! It took days to explain the thundering explosive sounding, which forced a fast emergency shut down, as nothing was even seemingly tarnished. There was no semblance of destruction on the meter's exterior plastic housing, but eventually, every single internal circuit was found burned to crisp carbon black! Similar type "mischief" is occasionally reported from tornados, where fireballs, some one to three feet in diameter, roll through houses, for instance, and out again through a chimney without hurting anything. This is another area of reality that physicists love to shy away from, so it must be touching close to the mechanics connecting with life. REINCARNATION DEMO - DEV It is now easier to postulate a solution to the Rosicrucian demonstration on reincarnation that was discussed in chapter three, though there surely are a lot of details to be yet worked out. A movie projector screen was set up in the ballroom, but with no movie projectors, whereupon there suddenly appeared simultaneous and distinct color movies for many different observers, in which the individuals, themselves, were featured actors or actresses. Activated samskƒras, of course, hold the content of powerful situations experienced in former lives. The samskƒras are stored in fluctuation patterns among the three gunas of citta and the subtle senses. These fluctuations are rarely seen, as their intensities are highly diminished relative to the physical senses. The Rosicrucian setting, however, was very special. Vowel sounds and breathing charged up the environment and the participants with additional sakti and invocation sentiments brought around a host of unseen masters, for surely, this was their big convention. The subtle senses of the observers moved to the movie projector screen and the observers saw themselves in a full featured movie. Each of the observer's own subtle senses commingled with the plasma like fog haze of unseen masters. This commingling was the source of "excited" or "pumped up" citta of the observers, where the amplitude of fluctuations among the gunas, particularly rajas guna, increased. The unseen masters had previously picked up extra energy from the environmental vowel sound stimulations, not to mention that they, themselves, need to be considered in a highly "excited" state relative to the on-looking participants. As the setting had been meticulously set up for reincarnation experiences, the mind was prompted to catalytically favor the activation of samskƒras from previous lives, and we have to think that some intelligence was added to the selection process of samskƒras by the unseen masters. Several observers, but not all observers, simultaneously saw a different full color movie. This was no ordinary photon light on the movie screen, as is typically measured by physicists. The movies were created through the activated samskƒras, the fluctuating patterns of the three gunas, which activities were amplified through the "exited" local environment. The seer directly witnessed the events of the subtle mind. The spatial terminating positions of the subtle senses located the position of the subtly derived image for the seer, like cursor positioning activities on a computer screen, or similarly as a movie screen is still seen the same, whether we stand to look at it, lie down, or stand on our head. The terminating positions of the plasma like fog haze of the subtle senses remain at the same place on the movie screen while the body twists and turns. The projecting fog haze of the subtle senses simply twist and turn accordingly as they move from the holographic connection at the brain to the fixed location at the movie screen. BURNING TRIANGLE - DEV The burning triangle experience has a similar explanation, except that there is no fixed point in space-time where the subtle senses attach. A large group of individuals was instructed to visualize a triangle. The accumulation of citta from many visualizations along with the interceding of unseen masters, coagulated a combined and commingled sets of citta at their center of mass, so to speak, at the center of the large, circulating temple. The simultaneous visualization by many, brought up a triangle composed of the joint fluctuations of consciousness of the whole assembly, including those of the unseen masters, and it was an impressive burning ferocity. We now better appreciate the power of group invocation, "for when two or three are gathered in my name, there am I in the midst of them." (Matthew 18.20) The burning triangle was not seen by everyone however, because everyone did not so intently commingle with the unseen masters and everyone did not become so intently enthralled with the triangle. AIRLINE LANDING GEAR - DEV The landing gear experience is similarly explained, but with other modifications. The subtle senses were projected out on to the landing gear and unseen masters were invoked and vitalized through the RAMA chanting, and although the Rosicrucian was later exhausted in directing the sakti to the landing gear area, his exhaustion did not account for enough energy and power as would be needed to both lock the landing gear and make the incredibly loud metallic sound which simultaneously occurred. However, there was a plane load of people who were undoubtedly in some form of praying, invocational activity. Perhaps Jesus was being called upon, or perhaps Mohammed, or some of the saints, or whomever. We can attach many names among many persuasions, but the same sort of physical activities and subtle mental realities were being activated by the whole plane load of people, whether or not everyone was explicitly aware of details. In short, everyone joined together in providing additional sakti to a coagulating, pushing energy that was managed by the conglomerate of unseen masters that had been called forth by the entire plane load of passengers. It was a program of teamwork, or it would not have worked!
