Taittiriya Upanishad TAITT-1.TXT *********************************************************************** Taittiriya Upanishad is considered as one of the most important one among all the upanishads. Taittiriya Upanishad belongs to Krishna Yajurveda or Taittiriya category. There is also a story behind the name Taittiriya . The seventh, eighth and ninth sections of Taittiriya Upanishad are called Siksha valli, Brahma valli and Bhrugu valli. The tenth section is called Maha Naraayanopanishad . Taittiriya Upanishad is very popular because it is one of the few upanishads which have a a distinct style of recitation and also due to its extensive use in the religious services, especially in the South India. In order to facilitate the learning process, the three sections (Siksha, Brahma and Bhrugu valli) have been divided into smaller chapters. There are twelve chapters in Siksha valli, nine in Brahma valli and ten in Bhrugu valli - a total of thirty one chapters. Siksha valli is on the Science of Pronunciation, Brahma valli is on Brahma (also called as Ananda valli and Brahmanada valli because it discusses about Bliss that is Brahman). Bhrugu valli is on Bhrugu's Enlightnment. I have attempted to provide a transliteration (and to the best of my abilities, translation) of these chapters. It is very difficult to present such abstruse philosophy through translation, when the language into which it is rendered differs so widely in form and in spirit from the original. * Siksha valli * Brahma valli * Bhrugu valli ----------------------------------------------------------------------- References: 1.
