Pendulum Divination Divination is the art of using magickal tools to gather information from the collective unconscious. Dowsing is a way putting your full brain to work. We have been conditioned to work with the left side or logical side of our brains, almost excluding the right or creative and intuitive side. Intuition occurs in the part of the brain that has no language. Dowsing can be thought of a co- processing of both sides of the brain. Pendulums are one of the oldest and most popular forms of dowsing. They are simple to learn and to work with. A pendulum simply described is a balanced weight (crystal, wood or metallic) on the end of a chain. The dowser draws on the information in the collective unconscious and focuses that information to the pendulum in order to obtain responses to questions. With practice pendulums can be a wonderful tool to assist in gaining insight and information about yourself, a situation or another person. The hardest thing to learn is to clear your mind enough so that you focus on only the question at hand. It is important to use a pendulum in a quiet place where you can concentrate. Questions posed to a pendulum must be clear, concise and direct. It is very simple to determine your yes and no swings. Hold the pendulum in your hand, rest your elbow on a stable surface and relax. Simply ask "Show me my yes" or state "This is my yes" you will see that the pendulum begins to swing. The direction does not matter it can be toward and away from you, side to side, clockwise etc. Watch the response. Then ask "Show me my no" or state "This is my no" and watch the pendulum direction. It will be different from the yes. You now have a basis to work from. Asking yes/no questions of the pendulum is a great way to practice and grow comfortable with it. Questions can be for example: "Is this the correct time to do this" or "Is the correct decision for me." Try to be as specific as possible. You can use the pendulum to answer any question having two clear choices. Ask the pendulum to see the swing for choice "A" and then for choice "B". For example, in determining the gender of an unborn baby. Ask to see the swing for a girl, and then for a boy. Then ask "Is this child a boy or a girl". (This has proven to be remarkably accurate for me). Pendulums can even be helpful in narrowing choices down. For example using a time frame. Using the your regular yes and no swings ask..."Is this likely to occur within the next 4 weeks" if the answer is yes, then continue "Is this likely to occur within the next 3 weeks" and so on until your yes changes to a no. Once you have become familiar and comfortable, you can work with the many pendulum charts available or even make them yourself. Charts can cover topics ranging from physical direction, to relationships, to holistic healing alternatives. With time and practice a pendulum can become one of your most valuable magickal tools. Dowsing is an intuitive art. Your intuition can teach you much about not only the highest good for yourself and what you do, but also those around you. By learning to work with your intuition you take yet another step in gaining wisdom.
